Calexico are an American band from Tucson, Arizona, founded in 1996 by Joey Burns and John Convertino, formerly the rhythm section of Giant Sand. Named for the town on the California–Mexico line, they built a border sound nobody else owns — mariachi horns, spaghetti-western twang, and indie rock — peaking with Feast of Wire (2003) and sustained across decades of albums and collaborations, including with Iron & Wine.
