The moment
Brad was the quietest secret in the Pearl Jam family: Stone Gossard's other band, built not around arena riffs but around Shawn Smith — a soul falsetto so improbable in a Seattle rock context that everyone who stumbled into it became an evangelist. Welcome to Discovery Park was out that fall, and rooms like the Paradise were the project's natural scale: a stadium guitarist on purpose in a club, serving somebody else's voice. Smith died in 2019; the small rooms were where you had to have been.
