The moment
Golden Smog was alt-country's clubhouse — a deliberately unserious supergroup drawing from the Jayhawks, Soul Asylum, Run Westy Run, and, in its most famous configuration, Wilco's Jeff Tweedy — that surfaced every few years when its members' day jobs allowed. Another Fine Day had just come out that summer, and the Paradise got the 2006 edition: no stakes, deep bench, songs traded around the stage like a card game among old friends. The rare supergroup formed for fun instead of money.
