The moment
Grinderman was Nick Cave's midlife riot — a four-piece spun off the Bad Seeds so he could play distorted garage-blues about aging, lust, and indignity without the big band's gravity. Grinderman 2 had come out that fall, the shows were feral in a way Bad Seeds theaters weren't, and the whole project had barely a year to live: Cave dissolved it at the end of 2011. John saw both faces — the hymn-like Bad Seeds at the Orpheum in 2001, and this one, the id unchained at House of Blues.
