Jason Molina, Fading Trails era. One of four Magnolia Electric Co. shows documented at this room; John identified this one. No ticket survives.
The moment
Jason Molina was indie rock's great haunted craftsman — Songs: Ohia reborn as Magnolia Electric Co., turning Neil Young chords into weather reports from some permanent midnight. Fading Trails had just come out, and the Middle East basement got him at working strength: prolific, road-hardened, the voice still steady. The drinking that would take everything was already underway; within a few years he stopped touring, and in 2013 he was gone at 39. Shows like this one turned out to be the whole inheritance.
