The moment
In May 2004, Nick Hornby wrote a New York Times piece arguing that a Marah gig was everything rock and roll was supposed to be and had stopped being — and for one season the scrappy Philadelphia bar band carried the weight of a famous novelist's thesis. 20,000 Streets Under the Sky was just out, the Bielanko brothers played every night like a closing argument, and T.T. the Bear's — a Cambridge shoebox — was exactly the right courtroom. The archive catches them mid-thesis.

- Marah
“The Philadelphia bar band Nick Hornby's 2004 NYT essay held up as rock's living proof.”
