House of Blues, not Avalon. The two are often conflated, but Avalon closed in 2007 and its building was demolished; House of Blues was built new on the same Lansdowne Street lot and opened in February 2009 — this show came seven months later. John saw Arctic Monkeys, Ryan Adams, Spiritualized, Frank Black, New Found Glory and The Black Keys in the same room when it was still Avalon. No ticket survives. Reverend Horton Heat and Nashville Pussy opened. First logged against the venue's March 2011 Motörhead date; John corrected it to this show.
The moment
Lemmy was 63, thirty-four years into the loudest band in the world, and completely unchanged — same corner of the stage, same Rickenbacker aimed at the ceiling, same "we are Motörhead, and we play rock and roll." The documentary crew that made Lemmy was filming around this era, recording what everyone already knew: there was no act, that was just him. John got one night of it, with Mickey, in a room seven months old. Six years later Lemmy was gone, still on tour.

“The 2010 documentary shot in this era — the definitive portrait of the man John saw that night.”
