The moment
Ned's Atomic Dustbin were the moment's perfect artifact: two bass players, cartoon-kinetic grebo-pop from the English Midlands, God Fodder all over MTV's 120 Minutes, and t-shirts that outsold the records. In January 1992 they were exactly the kind of band a border club booked for San Diego's alternative kids. The stub's real power is context: nine days later John was watching Guns N' Roses in an arena. That was January 1992 — the old world and the new one, a week and a half apart.
From the time
- God Fodder
“The 1991 two-bass grebo landmark — 120 Minutes canon, briefly everywhere, wholly of its moment.”
