The moment
September 1993 was peak godfather-of-grunge: ten days before this show Neil Young closed the MTV Video Music Awards playing 'Rockin' in the Free World' with Pearl Jam, the coronation of his adoption by a generation of bands half his age. He toured that year with Booker T. and the M.G.'s — Stax royalty — as his backing band. And Blind Melon opened at the exact instant 'No Rain' and the bee girl owned MTV; Shannon Hoon had eighteen months to live. Three eras of American rock stacked into one arena night.
From the time
- Harvest Moon
“The 1992 return to the Harvest sound that, with Unplugged, crowned Young's early-90s resurgence as grunge's chosen elder.”
