WBCN X-Mas Rave. All ages. 15 Lansdowne St. The ticket prints only New Found Glory, but the Avalon bill that night was New Found Glory, Box Car Racer and Throne — Box Car Racer being Tom DeLonge’s band, a year into their only album. No source records the running order, so none is claimed here. The Rave was five simultaneous benefit shows across Boston, for Stop Handgun Violence and the Dana-Farber Sunshine Foundation.

The moment

The sleeper on this WBCN holiday bill was Box Car Racer — Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker's one-album side project, the moodier post-hardcore experiment that famously strained blink-182 from the inside and never toured again after this run. New Found Glory headlined at their Sticks and Stones peak, pop-punk's reigning kid brothers. A charity rave on Lansdowne Street, all ages, twenty bucks — and a footnote band whose entire live existence fit inside a few months of 2002.
