Also on the bill, recovered from setlist.fm's record of who played this room that night. setlist.fm stores no running order, so the slot each act played is unknown. Bonham and Alannah Myles opened, per John. setlist.fm logs only Alannah Myles at the Sports Arena that night; she supported several North American Manic Nirvana dates. Bonham — Jason Bonham's band — is John's memory alone here, though John had already seen them open for The Cult in the same room eight months earlier.

The moment

Robert Plant spent the late 80s refusing the one thing everyone wanted — a Led Zeppelin reunion — and touring his own synth-tinged records instead. The bill made the refusal poignant: Bonham, the band led by John Bonham's son Jason, opened for his father's old singer. Alannah Myles played too, months after 'Black Velvet' hit #1. Plant was proving a legend could keep moving; the kid in the opening slot was proof of what had been lost. Both things were true at the Sports Arena that night.
