The moment
The Soul Cages was the album that ended Sting's famous writer's block — three years of silence after his father's death, broken by a song cycle about Newcastle shipyards and unfinished grief. The 1991 tour carried the heaviest material of his career into arenas. Concrete Blonde shared the bill, a year into 'Joey' making Johnette Napolitano's voice inescapable. John's second of two Stings: the Amnesty-era optimist of 1988, and this — the same voice, three years and one funeral later.
