The moment
Consolers of the Lonely was announced on March 18, 2008 and released seven days later — no advance singles, no press copies, a deliberate strike against the leak-everything era that made the release itself the story. Jack White was at maximum ubiquity, the White Stripes on ice after Meg's anxiety pulled them off the road the previous fall. And there's a thread through John's stubs: Brendan Benson, sharing the front line on this stage, was the guy who opened for the White Stripes at the Roxy in 2002 and headlined the Middle East the next year. Six years later, the harbor pavilion. With Mickey.
