Stub reads "SUN JAN ... '91" — exact day is worn off. Date is an estimate. The Posies opened; setlist.fm logs them at the Price Center that night. John wondered whether it was The Gourds — it wasn't; that band didn't form until 1994, in Austin.

The moment
The Replacements had six months to live. All Shook Down was barely a Replacements record — Paul Westerberg and session players, the band's dissolution audible in the grooves — and this final tour was the wind-down of the great shambling could-have-beens of American rock. That July 4th they walked offstage in Chicago one by one, handing their instruments to their roadies, and it was over. A college ballroom in La Jolla got one of the last chances to see the band every 90s songwriter would spend a career imitating.
From the time
- All Shook Down
“The 1990 farewell in all but name — a Replacements album that was mostly Westerberg alone, carried out on one final tour.”
