Jordi Herold and John Riley opened it on February 24, 1979 as a bohemian coffeehouse with 85 seats, which roughly doubled to 170 in the late 1980s as it became a nationally known folk and singer-songwriter listening room. Under a later owner it went dark around 2020 and the city threatened its liquor license. The nonprofit Parlor Room bought it, renovated, and reopened on May 15, 2024.
