Ryan Adams is an American singer-songwriter from Jacksonville, North Carolina. He fronted the pioneering alt-country band Whiskeytown in the 1990s, then launched a solo career with Heartbreaker (2000) and Gold (2001) that made him the most prolific and most argued-about songwriter of his generation — at one point releasing three albums in a single year. His catalog runs from country-rock to Grateful Dead-styled jams to a full-album cover of Taylor Swift's 1989.
