The moment
Two weeks before Born on Flag Day came out, Deer Tick were the loudest rumor in indie rock's Americana wing — War Elephant had made 'Ashamed' a sleeper anthem, and John McCauley, all of 23, sang like a man who'd gargled the whole Replacements catalog. This is the first of the archive's five Deer Tick nights, a Providence bar band at the start of a long New England residency in John's concert life — House of Blues to Pearl Street to a 2026 ticket at 3S.
From the time
- Deer Tick
“The Providence band whose ragged early records made them Americana’s best bar band — caught here at the start.”
