The moment
Two post-punk giants splitting one arena bill: the Bunnymen touring the self-titled album with 'Lips Like Sugar,' New Order riding 'True Faith' and the Substance compilation into their American peak. It was also closer to an ending than anyone knew — Ian McCulloch quit the following year, and drummer Pete de Freitas was killed on his motorcycle the year after that. The classic Bunnymen lineup had less than a year of touring left; John caught one of its last American laps, with the best co-headliner imaginable.
