The moment
Technique had come out that January — New Order's acid-house record, made partly in Ibiza, #1 in Britain — and the summer 1989 American run it anchored was alternative music's first real stadium package: John Lydon's Public Image Ltd, the Sugarcubes with a 23-year-old Björk, and De La Soul weeks off 3 Feet High and Rising. Two years before Lollapalooza formalized the idea, this bill was the proof of concept, on a football field at SDSU.
From the time
- Technique
“The 1989 Ibiza-soaked #1 that fused New Order to acid house — the record this landmark package tour carried across America.”
