The moment
Three months before this show, the Black Crowes got thrown off the ZZ Top tour for mocking its beer sponsorship from the stage — and it was the best thing that ever happened to them. Shake Your Money Maker was headed toward five-times platinum, 'Hard to Handle' and 'She Talks to Angels' owned rock radio, and the ejection had rebranded them as the last unsponsored true believers in rock and roll. They headlined on their own terms instead. Jellyfish opened — the cult power-pop perfectionists, written on the stub by hand.
From the time
- Shake Your Money Maker
“The 1990 debut that made the Crowes rock's young traditionalists — and their sponsorship mockery made them its conscience.”
