The moment
Ten years after John watched them headline San Diego fresh off the ZZ Top ejection, the Black Crowes were winding down without knowing it — touring Lions through the fall of 2001, three months before announcing the hiatus that would shelve the band for years. The Robinson brothers' feud was already the subtext of every show. Two stubs, one decade apart, bracketing the whole first life of the last great Southern rock band: the swaggering ascent and the quiet last October.
From the time
- Lions
“The 2001 album whose tour ended in the January 2002 hiatus announcement — the first era's last chapter.”
