The moment
Siamese Dream was three months old and had nearly killed the band that made it — Billy Corgan re-recording his bandmates' parts in a depressive spiral, Jimmy Chamberlin's addiction, everyone predicting a breakup that was supposed to arrive before the record did. Instead it debuted in the Billboard top ten and turned the Pumpkins into the other great alternative band of 1993. Fourteen dollars caught them in a fairgrounds hall, the last stretch before Mellon Collie made everything about them enormous.
From the time
- Siamese Dream
“Recorded under conditions that nearly destroyed the band, then hailed as one of the defining alternative albums of the decade.”
