fear was five months old and All I Want hadn't exploded yet — the Santa Barbara band was still playing club rooms up the coast. First filed against the October 1992 Cal Poly date, but John remembered a small place, in January, called the Graduate — and the fan archive of the band's 1992 dates has them at the Industrial Way nightclub on January 28. No ticket survives.
The moment
fear was five months out and going nowhere in particular — a college-radio record by a Santa Barbara band that still booked its own club runs up the coast. Six months after this night, All I Want cracked the Top 20 and the rooms tripled in size. This is the version almost nobody got: the band at the Graduate, playing songs that were about to be everywhere, to a room that didn't know it yet.
