Opened in 1989 by Tim Mays, Bob Bennett and Peter English in a former Irish pub whose maximum occupancy was 75. Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins played that tiny original room. It moved to a larger space on Kettner Boulevard in 1994, holding a little over 200, and remains one of the country's most storied small rock clubs.
