Opened in 1988 as The Roxy, a 33,000-square-foot club inside a former opera house in the Theater District. After The Roxy closed in the late 2000s a renovation restored the ballroom's original opera-house detailing and the space reopened as Royale in 2010. Stated capacity varies by configuration: about 1,000 in the concert room, roughly 1,220 legal standing, close to 2,000 for the whole building.
