The Hold Steady are an American rock band formed in Brooklyn in 2003 by Craig Finn and Tad Kubler, both formerly of Minneapolis's Lifter Puller. They welded classic-rock riffs to Finn's dense, talk-sung narratives of hoodrats, scenesters, and Twin Cities Catholicism, and Boys and Girls in America (2006) made them critics' favorites and earned the standing description 'the best bar band in America.' Two decades in, they remain one of rock's most reliable live acts.
