With The Three O'Clock
- Date
- Monday, Oct 21, 1985
- Venue
- UCSD Gym
- City
- La Jolla, CA
John remembers this as the Apollo 9 tour, and he is right about the song — "Apollo 9" sat fourth in the set on this run, three nights earlier at the Greek Theatre. The tour was billed as Vive Le Rock, Adam Ant's last before he left music for acting. The earliest show in the archive, and the only one predating the stub collection. No ticket survives; the date is documented on setlist.fm as UC San Diego, La Jolla. The Three O'Clock opened — John remembers the slot, and the Paisley Underground band was Adam Ant's support across the 1985 US run.
The moment
This is where the whole collection begins: Adam Ant, three months after playing Live Aid, touring Vive Le Rock at a college gym — the dandy highwayman of early MTV near the end of his imperial run, a year before he stepped back into acting. The Three O'Clock, of LA's Paisley Underground, opened. Every stub, order email, and remembered night in this archive descends from this one. Thirty-nine years later, John saw Ant again at a New Hampshire supper club — the longest artist-to-artist span in the collection.
From the time
- Vive Le Rock
“The 1985 album — fresh off a Live Aid slot — that closed Adam Ant's first great era.”
