The moment

Adam Ant's 2000s were public and brutal — bipolar disorder, sectioning, tabloid cruelty, years of silence. The 2012 return was one of music's most improbable comebacks: his first real American run in something like two decades, the hussar jacket back on, a double album on the way. Twenty-seven years after John saw him at a San Diego college gym, here he was in Times Square, older and stranger and defiantly himself.
