Jason Pierce made Sweet Heart Sweet Light while undergoing experimental treatment for degenerative liver disease — mixing an album about death and deliverance with the question genuinely open — and it came out three weeks before this show to some of the best reviews of his life. Ten years after John saw the hundred-musician Let It Come Down era at Avalon, here was Spiritualized pared back at the Paradise: same gospel reach, mortality no longer a theme but a circumstance.
