The White Stripes were an American rock duo from Detroit, formed in 1997 by Jack White and Meg White. A defining act of the early-2000s garage-rock revival, they paired raw blues and punk minimalism with a strict red, white, and black aesthetic. Their third album, White Blood Cells (2001), broke them to a wide audience, and Elephant (2003) — home to "Seven Nation Army" — made them one of the most important bands of the decade. They disbanded in 2011.
