The moment
Zoo TV was six weeks old and nothing like it had ever toured before — walls of televisions, hanging Trabants, MacPhisto still a year away, Bono prank-calling the White House from the stage. Achtung Baby had rebooted the biggest band in the world five months earlier. The Pixies took the opening slot across the first American leg, months from quietly falling apart; within a year Kurt Cobain would be calling them the blueprint. Los Angeles was the only city on the leg that needed two nights. This was the first one.
From the time
- Zoo TV Tour
“The tour that reinvented the arena rock show — satellite TV, sensory overload, and irony as staging.”
