The moment
Dylan in the fall of 2000 was between masterpieces — three years past Time Out of Mind, ten months from Love and Theft — but 'Things Have Changed,' his sly noir single for Wonder Boys, was out and headed for the Oscar he'd famously keep on his amp for years afterward. The Never Ending Tour was at cruising altitude: small arenas, general admission, the band tight from two hundred nights a year. The middle Dylan of John's five, caught between the comeback and its confirmation.
From the time
- Things Have Changed
“The 2000 single that won Dylan an Academy Award — written and toured in the gap between Time Out of Mind and Love and Theft.”
