15 Lansdowne Street had a long life before Avalon: it hosted the relocated Boston Tea Party in 1969-70, where the Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin and The Who played, then became Patrick Lyons' Metro in about 1980, was renamed Citi after a domed roof went on in 1988, and finally Avalon from 1992. Nirvana, Prince and The Ramones played the building across its incarnations. Lyons closed Avalon and the adjoining Axis in 2007 and the building came down; House of Blues opened on the site in 2009.
